The Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Law
Chapter 16 Revelation of the (Eternal) Life of the Tathagata (page Seeing the Buddha in Our Lives 255)“All those people, by reason of their bad karma, throughout thousand years, hear not the name of the Precious Three, but all who perform virtuous deeds and are gentle and of upright nature, these all see that I exist and am here expounding the law.”
(“Without Virtue or Merit, You are not even able to see the Buddha”
“The Precious Three” =The Three Treasures, Taking Refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha)The Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Law
Chapter 28 Encouragement of the Bodhisattva Universal Virtue (page 340)The Four Requisites of the Practice of Faith

“Taking Refuge in the Buddha”
2. To plant the roots of virtue
“Taking Refuge in the Dharma”
3. To enter the assembly of people of correct resolution
“Taking Refuge in the Sangha”

“Donation of the Sutra”Virtue represents the foundation, the cultivated characteristics (personality), and the blessing of the Buddha in our Lives
Founder Niwano’s Guidance
1. Virtuous fields, make good kernels of rice
Virtuous Fields are warm, soft, and richly cultivated. Bending rice stalks signify humbleness and appreciation.
2. “Life” is connected by three segments of generations and your time
Branch, Leaves (Future) = Your Children
Trunk (Present) = You, Parent
Roots (Past) = Ancestors
Soil = Virtue deed
Our “virtue” container and “virtue” deeds are nurturing our lives. If we become angry, it would be as if our container was cracked. If we begin to grumble, it would be as if our container was broken. If we had a greedy nature, it would be as if our container had a leak.
