Our Sense of Oneness With Others
The general concept of compassion is one in which happy people
take pity on unhappy, miserable ones.
That’s why when it comes to “Charity Work,” some may
think, due to their prejudice, “we don’t like it, because it involves
looking down on other people from a better position”.
However, the compassionate heart never looks down on others.
On the contrary, the feeling that develops from true compassion is that
of oneness with others. The mindset of compassion, or empathy, is one that wishes
to help others, and to share happiness with others, since we all exist equally
as human beings in this world of suffering
We could say that because we have lost such compassionate hearts, our society
has become colder, and darker.
Therefore, what we have to do first is to let all people firmly know that, “We
are all connected and interdependent with one another.”
This idea leads to the realization of the truth that “Nothing has an ego.” Without being aware of this truth, we will not be able to cultivate our sense of oneness with others.
