Founder's Teaching

From the anxiety of not knowing what will be happening tomorrow, some may turn to fortune telling or live each day with stopgap measures with the attitude of “things will follow through some how.”

In the New Testament, Matthew said, “Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” (Matthew 6:34)

In everything, Shakyamuni Buddha teaches us, “The important thing is what you would do now.”

The phrase “Gojyouoshisetu” in Chuandenglu, I believe, also has the meaning of “at your given place and time, with true sincerity, always live your life at your fullest.”

Since the foundation of Rissho Kosei-kai, we have displayed the banner of “Infinite as heaven and earth” and “Many in body but one in spirit.” The phrase “Many in body but one in spirit” was originally from the phrase of great bodhisattva Nichiren, “With the idea of ‘many in body but one in sprit,” we can achieve everything.” This phrase expresses the enthusiasm of --together as one, us, the people who hold the same faith will practice the teaching of Lotus Sutra.

This “Many in body but in spirit” teach us the importance of many people taking on a matter with one mind, however we can expand on the idea a little further. On this planet earth, there exist few billions of people and all have Buddha-nature. In other words, the mind and heart these each individual have seems to be different and vary from one another, however, deep down, they all have the same mind and heart. All human beings equally possess Buddha-nature; therefore, there is no reason for not being able to join each of mind and heart together. This serves the wish of gods and buddhas.

Also, there are many religions in this world, but as we all know, “All religions have the same root,” therefore, on basis, all religions have the wish of gaining true happiness for all human beings.
